July 6 - Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Psalm verse: The LORD is faithful in all his words
and holy in all his works.
The LORD lifts up all who are falling
and raises up all who are bowed down.
R/ I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God.

From the Gospel:
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” - Matthew 11:28-30

The words that touched my heart from the readings of July 6th were the above.  It has been a tough year for me and now many of my friends are going through some tough times.   My general personality is one to keep busy.  Sometimes I use busyness as an excuse to avoid prayer and to avoid God.
My time off (stuck on the couch) - when I could do nothing, had no excuses, couldn't run from God, couldn't hide from God, couldn't avoid God - gave me time to rest in God.  I was able to just "BE" one with God.  I didn't need to do anything and found that God loved me just the same.    I was able to truly rest.

I did lots of praising God.  Even when I questioned Him, I thanked Him.  There was a time when I thought I had to "work" to earn God's love.  But no more.  I can just "BE".

This summer I plan to spend my first 30 minutes of every day just being with God -  praying.  Some days prayer might  just be "being".  Some days it might be reading good spiritual books.  Some days it might be reading scripture.  Some days it will be listening to great praise music.  Some days I will just be silent.  Everyday I will be spending time with my good friend - resting in Him.

At least that's my plan!

Let's Share Faith - each week!

Opening up the scriptures - hearing God speak to our hearts.....sharing that with friends....helps us grow in our faith.

Here's the format:
Take some time to read over the readings slowly.

Sit in silence for a few minutes and Read them again.

What lines speak to you and why?

Then, read what others have shared....

  • see if it adds to how God has spoken to you....
    • if not, that's ok.  He speaks to us as individuals.
    • But maybe something you share will help someone else in their faithwalk...so don't be shy.
  • Be Kind Always!
  • No negative comments on someone else's sharing!
Let's Share our faith and see where God takes us!
Blessings!
